My grandpa had a way of touching every life around him, and I can he helped shape me into the person I am today. He wasn’t just my grandpa he was a role model, a teacher, and a best friend. He showed me what it means to live with kindness, patience, and a genuine love for life. No matter where he was or who he was with, he made people feel seen, valued, and loved. Some of my favorite memories with him are out on the water at the lake house on Lake George. I can still picture sitting on his lap while steering the boat, my small hands gripping the wheel while he guided me down the lake. And then there was Solvieg, the sailboat — the place where time seemed to slow down. Sailing with him on Solvieg wasn’t just an adventure; it was a feeling of peace, freedom, and connection. I will never forget him comforting me when I was scared of the rocking and leans as we did a tac or hit some wind. Those moments taught me so much more than how to drive a boat or sail, but they taught me how to navigate life with confidence, joy, and purpose. Grandpa showed me how to find beauty in the simple things, to laugh even when things got hard, and to always lead with love. I carry those lessons with me every single day, and I know that a part of him will always live on in the way I see the world and the person I try to be.
